What’s Your Affirmation?

Now is as good a time as any to ask yourself, “What are my goals?” Things have changed over the past several months, and perhaps your goals have changed and shifted as well.

What’s Your Affirmation?

When I first took a job selling for someone else, it was 1983. I was introduced to my new sales manager and he handed me a copy of Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich as well as a blank goal sheet template. He said, “I want this filled out and returned to me by Monday.”

I looked at it and it was intimidating. At the top of the sheet it said, “What is your affirmation?” followed by a few blank lines.

My first reaction was to look at my sales manager and think, “Who the heck are you? This is my personal business.” However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized what he was doing. It wasn’t only about an “affirmation.” He wanted my quantitative goals for 30 days, 60 days and 90 days. He had me create a vision board and discuss how all six areas of my life - personal, financial, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social - were going to be advanced by working with him. Of course, the Napoleon Hill book provided great context for the exercise, and the more I became fascinated with goal-setting and metrics tracking, the higher my commissions (and my employer’s revenues) rose!

With that in mind, if you think along the same lines, what would your affirmation and goals be? I challenge you to take the time to sit down and contemplate where you are and where you see yourself going over the next month, two months and remainder of the year.
